The journey through this spiritual life is like the “Snake and Ladder” game. You can rise and fall from any level to the other. When you were saved, you enter into box 1 (one).
As you patiently wait on the Lord in prayers and steadfastness for spiritual progress, the old serpent (the devil) becomes angry and sends his representatives all along your track. The snakes (serpents) are present at strategic points to bite you with lust, lies, hatred, unforgiveness, and bitterness with other presumptuous sins and drop you deep down the lane to restart your spiritual race.
The ladders are also present to carry you deeper in the spiritual journey. These ladders present themselves in spiritual steadfastness and wisdom in the word of God to make you jump steps and lead you to perfection (100).
But you need the Holy Spirit to be accurate in your calculations to jump the fiery serpents for the ladders. He alone can get you out of the game to the much awaited glorious home just after the last step of the game.
The bible says;
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world” 1Pet 5:8-9
And the Holy Spirit of God;
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you” John 14:26
“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me” John 15:26
Jesus therefore gave the warning repeatedly;
“Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak” Mark 14:38
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” Matt 26:41
The enticement of the devil look sweet but the end is eternal damnation in hell fire. Yield not to his temptation!

HYMN: Yield Not to Temptation

Yield not to temptation, for yielding is sin;
Each vict’ry will help you some other to win;
Fight manfully onward, dark passions subdue;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

Ask the Savior to help you,
Comfort, strengthen, and keep you;
He is willing to aid you,
He will carry you through.

Shun evil companions, bad language disdain,
God’s name hold in rev’rence, nor take it in vain;
Be thoughtful and earnest, kindhearted and true;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.

To him that o’ercometh, God giveth a crown,
Through faith we will conquer, though often cast down;
He who is our Savior, our strength will renew;
Look ever to Jesus, He’ll carry you through.
